Fall 2010

In Campbell River and the North Island there are more than 116 Registered Charities, with 90 in Campbell River alone.  With so many options for donors to make contributions, we are grateful that our donors continue to place their confidence in the Campbell River Hospital Foundation.

As donors become more selective as to the charities they will support, they in turn become more aware of how their money is being spent.  The Campbell River Hospital Foundation and its donors are a making difference in the health care of Campbell River and the North Island.  The new Portable Ultrasound in the Emergency Department and the Fetal Monitor for Maternity, are the results of the partnership between the community, the Foundation and the Hospital to provide excellence in health care.

The Foundation continues to build on its goal of financial sustainability as outlined in our Strategy to follow sound financial and management practices.  In May 2010 we opened Pulse Coffee at the Campbell River Hospital.  We are proud to expand our partnership with the Hospital by diversifying our fund raising initiatives in a way that compliments the exisiting food services offered to patients, staff and visitors.

In the 2008/09 fiscal year, the Campbell River Hospital Foundation, through the generosity of our donors, contributed 18.56% of capital funding spent for the Campbell River Hospital.  This is a significant contribution and we beleive that we must continue to be innovative to maintain and grow such contribution percentage levels.

Later this month, the Foundation Board of Directors will meet under the guidance of newly appointed Chair Cyriel DeBruyne.  Cyriel is the store manager of our local Quality Foods and has served on the Foundaton board since 2009.  He is highly respected and known for his work with the Canada Day Committee, SPCA and the Campbell River Chamber of Commerce.

Cyriel plans for the 2010/11 Hospital Foundation Board include charting a course for the next 5 years that encourages, builds and nutures our relationships with our donors and stakeholders.  He is also committed to continuing with the success of the Price is Right fund raiser and the creation of new events that create community spirit while raising funds to support quality health care.
